Beer Beer as far as the eye can see. Craft beer is alive and well in Budapest. I went to the first day of this three-day craft beer festival. The 70 bus runs right into the City Park. You get off at the sunbathing lawn at Olof Palme sétány and enter the pop-up beerstravaganza. There’s no entrance fee, so you can wander around, and eat all of the street food you can fit. If you want to partake in the beer tasting you must buy a festival glass. The glass is 1200 HUF and you get to take it home with you.
Even with the smallest of the pour options, one can only try so many beers in a day – that’s why there are 3 days to keep on going back and trying more. I got there and headed right my favorite bar’s location, #32 Hopaholic. This is my local beer bar, and being that it is 2 blocks from our apartment I can say I am a regular. They have an amazing selection, super awesome staff, and laid-back bar atmosphere. Well, their truck and tent were something to behold. There was quite the show, with feats of strength and in-air arm wrestling, photos in the cardboard cut out standees, and all around good times and cheer.
At any rate, I started there. I met tons of nice people all super into beer, everyone had untapped! Next, it was time for a trip to Csupor brewery station. I had their award winning IPA and pear beer, both really good.
At this point, it was getting dark and thunder clouds loomed. I had time to do a quick lap, to see some of the sights and grab a hot dog and hit the road before the rain started in. If it weren’t for the rain today, I’d probably be there instead of writing this post 🙂
